Also dogs are natural chewers and they will more than likely chew a plastic bowl when left to their own devises. I would invest a bit more money on a metal dish, they are clean, long lasting, indestructible and safe.

Since I assume you don't want to travel too far with your dog, would you care to place some geographical restrictions on your question? There are many excellent petsitters and boarding kennels, and some of them are probably further away than you're going on your vacation (unless you're planning a round-the-world trip).

My dog has a metal dog bowl and the food sticks to it and gets dry

You can use dish washing detergent and hot water to remove the dried on food - I usually use boiling water from the kettle and leave it to soak for a while. Make sure you rinse off all the suds after by running it under the tap for a while.
