I am in the middle of setting up a tank for a Hognose snake I will be buying later this week. I am concerned about the type of bedding I should use. One site I was looking at said that aspen shavings would be good. Does anyone know anything about substrates for this particular brand of snake?

I have had a Hognose for over a year now and I use a combination of soil and sand. As a species, Hognose snakes are known to be burrowers.

I put sand as bedding in my reptile cage but Im afraid they will swallow it

It is worrying but what you can do is feed yourreptile in a cage area that does not have sand. I personally like sand as cagebedding but maybe you shouldn't put sand all around just in specific areas. Youcan also use special carpets for reptiles and put in other areas of the cage.
