Is it worth it to build my own aquarium heater using materials I have around the house?

Before you make your own heater, I would first determinewhether it is cost effective because of the time it would take you to build(and, theoretically, to fix). Also, youmight be expending a lot more gas or electricity to keep it running than youwould with a store-bought model. If Iwere to build one, I'd use food grade vinyl tubing as a heat exchanger. I'd avoid all metals in an aquarium becausethey can rust and easily overheat. Here is a link with great step by step directions, includingpictures.

How can I prevent my Saltwater aquariums from accumulating so much salt on the outside of the tank.I have to clean saltwater build up at least every 3 days.I have a 125 Gallon and also a 55 Gallon Sal

I am no expert on saltwater tanks, but I am wondering what temperature you are keeping the tanks. The water evaporation rate of the tank depends on the temperature and humidity of the room the tank is in. Lowering the tank temperature to around 70-72 `F and increasing the ambient humidity to 60+% RH will reduce evaporation which will result in less salt encrustation.

Is it safe to use an exotic terra snake cave in an aquarium as a fish hide?

I think using a cave marketed for reptiles would be fine. Three things to consider:Was the cave previously used in a reptile habitat? When I use rocks from outside I usually boil them to kill any bacteria or microbes that may be harmful to the fish. If the cave is not plastic or wood, I would recommend doing the same.Is the cave painted? Some people are concerned about paint harming their fish. I assume most paint would be fine, but make sure it won't flake off in the water.Living Plants? I hate to state the obvious, but the plant will die and the fish may or may not have difficulty if they eat the plant. All in all, I wouldn't worry too much about the cave. Just make sure it's clean and let your fish enjoy it!

I want to build a dog house for my little dog but don't know if to use plastic or wood. What's a better option?

I would definitely use wood as the prime material to build a dog house. First and foremost wood will keep your dog warm in the winter. Secondly, it is much easier to build wooden dog houses compared to plastic.

Will using plastic aquarium plants have any effect of my fish?

Many of the popular home aquarium fish are by nature herbivores; however we feed them colored fish flakes. Putting fake plant life among their habitat can seem as though you are taunting them with something they would like to have, but is ultimately inedible. Overall, it will not harm your fish in any way, they will adapt easily to the change.
